VB 6.0/.Net Programmer

We are seeking several talented, experienced, and energetic Microsoft VB Developers.  Our core product is currently written in Visual Basic 6.0 with a SQL Server database. The focus of future product development will be the .NET platform.  Individuals we seek will be comfortable maintaining existing code and developing new application in the .NET environment

Your background should include experience with object-oriented design, including the appropriate design/use of classes, and developing code with an eye toward re-use (database functions, UI elements, etc.).  Knowledge of design patterns is helpful, but not required.  Your values as a developer should place a priority on maintainability over elegant, yet difficult to follow, code.  You should be familiar not just with the syntax of a .NET language, but the overall architecture of the platform.

You must be self-motivated and able to work independently, while regularly reporting your progress to management.  Your responsibilities will include not only design and coding, but also gathering requirements from end users, testing and documentation.  Interfacing with end users is required which will require polished verbal and written communication skills.

The successful candidate must have the following characteristics:

  1. Minimum of four years of accredited college work with a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering. Degree requirements may be waived with significant related and demonstrable work experiences.
  2. Minimum two years of software development experience using tools such as Microsoft Visual Basic, SQL Server 2000, Crystal Reports, etc. Knowledge of these primary development tools is absolutely mandatory.
  3. Experience with industrial PLC's, especially A-B or Siemens, and a manufacturing background is desirable. Knowledge of OPC software is a also a plus.
  4. Experience with development and deployment of mobile applications in a Windows CE or Windows Mobile.  Net environment is also plus.
  5. Knowledge of various bar code printing technologies and proprietary languages such as ZPL and/or DPL is highly desirable.
  6. This position may require work with code originally created by other programmers.  To that end, the successful candidate must be able to read and comprehend existing code so that it can be fixed, modified, or debugged.
  7. Expert problem solver - looks for (and finds!) simple answers to complex questions or problems.
  8. Ability to work flexible hours.  While not the norm, this job may require occasional night and/or weekend work.
  9. Must be willing to commute to, live near, or relocate on your own to the Nashville, Tennessee area.
  10. Ability to work well under deadlines.  Our software is for high intensity work environments.  Under normal conditions this is a relaxed atmosphere, but occasionally there will be short periods of intense pressure to perform.  The successful candidate must be able to think clearly and quickly during these times.
  11. Occasional travel may be required; however, this will not be a major part of the position.  Typical travel requirements will likely be 3-4 overnight trips annually.
Please send a cover letter and resume to hresources@insequence.com.
