The SPD Pro system is a suite of modules that interact to provide a complete stand-alone sequential part delivery solution that can be integrated with other systems such as ERP or WMS. Each module communicates with the others in a specific order to coordinate a smooth stream of events from the moment the broadcast is received until the final materials are shipped. Because the system is modular in design, it is easily tailored to individual facility requirements.
SPD Pro Process
The OEM electronically sends a broadcast or file to a supplier requesting various required parts that they are contracted to supply for a specific make and model of automobile. The supplier’s SPD Pro system receives the broadcast through the Host module which verifies the accuracy of the data, translates it into a format usable by the rest of the SPD Pro system, and then sends it to the Load Management module to be organized into shipping loads. The parts are then either manufactured to the OEM specifications using the MES module, or if no manufacturing is required, the SPD Pro Rack Loading process will be used. During loading, the Rack Loading module verifies that the parts are picked and packed correctly. Then the Shipping module generates a shipping document for the driver to present at the final assembly plant as proof of the truck’s contents. All modules can run continuously and simultaneously for maximized production throughout the work day.
SPD Pro Modules:
SPD Pro Host Module
The SPD Pro Host module performs two primary jobs: receiving data and processing data. Host establishes and maintains a persistent connection with the OEM and retrieves data from their system. Host then verifies the data accuracy, translates the data into a format usable by the rest of the SPD Pro system, and then sends the data to the Load Management module to be organized into shipping loads.
Although each OEM uses a unique broadcast mechanism, all SPD Pro Host modules allow users to view a log of raw broadcast data, edit the broadcast if necessary, view data on the main screen as it arrives and as it is processed, view any system messages, enter data manually if necessary, and make substitutions for the broadcast data if necessary. All of these features are essential to a successful SPD system.
SPD Pro Load Management
The Load Management module receives the broadcast from the SPD Pro Host for distribution to the appropriate module within the SPD Pro System. Load Management organizes the data into loads, also known as containers or racks and assigns a unique ID to each load for traceability. It then automatically creates queues that are made available to the Rack Loading module and MES module for the operator to begin picking or manufacturing.
SPD Pro Manufacturing Execution System
Modular subassembly is becoming increasingly prevalent as more and more automotive OEMs require suppliers to provide large sub-assembled modules such as instrument panels, door panels, and seat assemblies. The SPD Pro Manufacturing Execution System (MES) module allows suppliers to build complex assemblies in sequence. MES provides step-by-step directions for operators at each workstation, error proofs each step, interfaces with assembly line machinery as needed, and provides complete “cradle to grave” traceability.
SPD Pro Rack Loading
The SPD Pro Rack Loading module manages scan verification for post-manufacturing rack loading and for non-manufacturing pick-pack sequencing. As each part with a manufacturer’s barcoded label is scanned, Rack Loading verifies that the scanned data matches the OEM’s requirements for that sequence. A sequence label linking that part to a specific vehicle on the OEM assembly line is then printed and affixed to the part, and the part is loaded into its designated slot in the sequenced rack. When all required parts are loaded on the rack, Rack Loading automatically prints a rack label.
SPD Pro Rack Audit
The Rack Audit module allows fully loaded racks to be audited prior to shipping and also directs printing of verification labels if needed. Once the operator scans the load ID to begin the audit, the slot position and part location is scanned to verify the content of the load. The Shipping module can also be set to check the status of the audit prior to completing shipment.
SPD Pro Shipping Module
The Shipping module manages the shipping process for sequenced loads by determining the correct trailer loading pattern and by error proofing the loading process for completed racks. Bill of Lading details can be exported to a supplier’s LAN for use by their ERP or WMS system. Many interfaces to the most commonly used ERP systems are already developed.
