System and Cyber Security, Part 1: Stay Updated

System and Cyber Security, Part 1

Due to the crippling cyber attacks seen last year, Insequence is leading the way in increased cyber security by maximizing their own defenses.

Cyber security is at the forefront of today’s business and data management world. In the last three years, the FBI reported 40,203 Business Email Compromise attacks resulting in a loss of over $5.3 billion dollars. The 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack alone infected over 200,000 computers in 150 different countries.

Insequence is dedicated to staying aware and implementing best security practices to prevent any type of data loss. This includes mitigating the impact of cyber-attacks. It has become routine for the company to conduct backups on a daily and weekly basis to secure customer and company information.

In the wake of the business-crippling attacks WannaCry and Petya/NotPetya/Goldeneye, Insequence has taken steps to increase network security and within the last few months the company has:

  • Take further measures to ensure that Microsoft systems remain updated and anti-virus is current through company group policy
  • Updated password complexity requirements
  • Purchased and installed a new firewall
  • Updated its VPN including the addition of Two Factor Authentication (FA)
  • Further educating employees on best cyber security practices

Stay Alert

The WannaCry attacks demonstrate why companies must stay vigilant and updated on cyber security practices. For instance, Microsoft released the patch to eliminate the vulnerability a month before the outbreak. Those who did not implement this patch in time, opened their systems to the attack. Insequence takes its responsibility seriously and is proactive in all facets of cyber security practices.
